Evan picked up the phone at his desk, “This is Detective McPherson.”

“Evan, this is Larry Barnfield.”

“Hey Larry, what’s up?”

“My man Nick has got some of your samples tested. When can you make it over here?”

“Give me a couple of hours.”

“I’ll be waiting.”

As Evan placed the phone down he called over to Dalton and Hillman, “Hey can you guys cover for me for a little while.”

“Sure,” Dalton replied, “just bring lunch when you come back.”

“Deal.”

Barnfield greeted him when he arrived, “I’m glad you’re here Evan. Nick has something for you.”

“What does he have?”

“I’ll let him explain it to you.” Barnfield, used his swipe card to gain access to the lab. Once inside he said, “Nick, you’ve got a visitor.”

Nick looked up from his table, “Detective McPherson, hi. I’ll be with you in just a second. Let me finish this, it’s about done.”

“Is that for another case?” Evan asked.

“No, not exactly I’m trying to recreate my grandfather’s secret recipe. Several of the guys here were talking about moonshine the other day. They wanted to know what it was like so I’m making them some.”

“Too bad you don’t have any to spare.”

“If I would have known you were coming I would have made extra. I do have something else for you. Those samples you provided don’t match the blood or the hair recovered from the clothing that was found in the car. We were, however, able to determine that the person your samples came from, and the person whose blood was on the outside of the clothing was closely related.”

“How close would you say?”

“At this point either siblings or parent and child.”

“Like Mother and daughter?”

“Since they were both female I would be safe in saying so.”

“What about the heel cap?”

“I was just getting to that. The heel cap matches the indentation that was in the shoe that we were looking at. If I had the shoe the cap came from I could make a much better analysis.”

“I’ll see what I can do about that.”

“See if you can get it as soon as possible. They have a lot for me to do in the coming weeks.”
